He is currently an Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Kenan-Flagler Business School, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY), and a M.S. and Ph.D in Management and Organizations from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Dr. Bermiss conducts research in the area of strategic human capital management where he explores the micro-foundations of competitive advantage by studying how different forms of employee movement impact a firm’s ability to compete. His award-winning research has been published in Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Research in Organizational Behavior. His research has also been highlighted by Harvard Business Review, the Wall Street Journal, and National Public Radio. Before entering academia, Dr. Bermiss worked as a management consultant for Deloitte & Touche in New York City.
Jack Lynch joins us for his keynote presentation, The Battle Against Fraud in an Evolving Digital World. Fraudsters continue to innovate and find new ways to attack, utilizing multiple channels to execute sophisticated fraud schemes. As credit union members continue to embrace technology and increase digital interactions, strong fraud management is more important than ever.
Join Jack, PSCU’s Chief Risk Officer and President of TriVerity, as he shares an overview of the current fraud landscape and how to establish successful fraud mitigation strategies. Learn the value of maintaining the balance between risk tolerance and member experience, as well as discover the importance of leveraging technology, but why it also takes a multi-layered approach that involves people and processes to effectively combat fraud.
Lynch has over 25 years of leadership experience delivering operational services, project management, client implementations, process re-engineering, account management, training, and technology services. His experience will prove invaluable as he delivers key learnings during his presentation.
Peter Sullivan joins us from CUNA Mutual Group with his keynote presentation, Solve Your Deposit Dilemma & Boost Your Employee Benefits at the Same Time. As a senior executive benefits specialist, Peter works closely with credit unions to choose an approach that best supports the institution’s interests, including previously non-permissible funding solutions that expand the investment options and return characteristics from the credit union industry’s average rate of return on assets.
Previously, Sullivan served as vice president, multi-life sales at Lion Street where he helped business owners with executive benefits plan designs and multi-life programs for employees. Peter holds various FINRA securities registrations.
A graduate of the South Eastern Massachusetts University, he also received a Juris Doctor degree from the Massachusetts School of Law. Although not a practicing attorney, Peter is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
Shawn Temple joins us for his keynote presentation, “Going from Surviving to Thriving: Growth Strategies in a Post-Pandemic World.” Temple has served the credit union industry since 1996, holding positions in both senior and middle management across lending, operations, compliance, marketing, training and project management.
Most recently, Shawn served as Chief Operating Officer of Bossier Federal Credit Union in Bossier City, Louisiana. In that role, he directed multiple divisions as well as planned, implemented and managed strategic objectives for the credit union.
Shawn served on the Southwest CUNA Management School (SCMS) faculty from 2010 through 2020. While a student at SCMS, he was an Award of Excellence recipient.
He has been certified by CUNA as a Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE). Shawn holds a B.S. in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
Dr. Roger Tutterow is Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University. He also serves as Director of the Econometric Center, an applied research center housed in KSU’s Coles College of Business.
Dr. Tutterow joins us for his keynote presentation, “What’s Next for the Post-Pandemic Global, National, and Regional Economy?” His analysis of the economic, business and political environments have been featured in a variety of media including Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, USA Today, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Arizona Republic, Florida Times-Union, Kansas City Star, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, Wichita Eagle and on CNN, CNBC, NBC, Bloomberg Television, NPR’s “Marketplace” and “All Things Considered,” CNN-Radio as well as by regional electronic and print media.
In addition to his work in academia, Dr. Tutterow has served as a consultant on financial economics and statistical modeling for corporate clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to closely held businesses. He also serves as Chief Economic Advisor for the Henssler Financial Group, an Atlanta-based investment advisory firm and as a strategic advisor to Georgia Oak Partners, an Georgia-focused private equity firm. He has provided expert testimony on economic, financial and statistical matters in state and federal court, before the Georgia General Assembly and before the Georgia Public Service Commission. Dr. Tutterow has given several hundred speeches to professional groups in over 30 states and Canada on topics in the economic, business and political arenas.
For the last four years, he has been selected by Georgia Trend magazine as a “notable Georgian”. In 2003, Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Dr. Tutterow to serve on the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisors, a capacity that he continues to serve in for current Georgia Governor Nathan Deal.
