Don't Tax My Credit Union!
New Jersey & Pennsylvania Credit Unions
The federal income tax exemption for credit unions is critical to their ability to serve members and communities effectively. As not-for-profit, member-owned institutions, credit unions reinvest their tax savings directly into providing significant benefits to their 140 million members nationwide.
These benefits include:
- Better Rates and Fees: Higher interest rates on deposits, lower loan rates, and reduced service fees.
- Enhanced Member Services: Investments in new branches, improved digital platforms, and tailored financial products.
- Community Investment: Funding for local economic development and financial education initiatives.
Removing this exemption would force credit unions to redirect resources away from members, reducing these benefits and placing a burden on families and communities.
CrossState urges you to visit our campaign in the Grassroots Action Center today to send a Don’t Tax My Credit Union! letter to your elected officials. By doing so, you can help protect credit unions’ ability to fulfill their mission and strengthen local economies.

Tell Congress: Support Transparency & Accountability in Financial Regulation
New Jersey & Pennsylvania Credit Unions
Taking Account of Bureaucrats’ Spending (TABS) Act of 2025 (H.R. 654), is House legislation to improve transparency and accountability in financial regulation. This bill would restructure the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, renaming it the Consumer Financial Empowerment Agency and establishing it as an independent agency outside the Federal Reserve System.
By enhancing oversight and ensuring the agency operates with greater accountability, H.R. 654 aims to create a regulatory environment that supports consumers—while allowing financial institutions, including credit unions, to better serve their members.
Congress needs to know how important this legislation is for credit unions and their members.
We urge you to visit our campaign in the Grassroots Action Center today to contact your member of Congress and ask them to support H.R. 654.
Support Veteran Entrepreneurs: Urge Congress to Pass H.R. 507
New Jersey & Pennsylvania Credit Unions
House legislation, Veterans Members Business Loan Act (H.R. 507), seeks to empower veteran entrepreneurs by expanding business lending opportunities. The bill proposes exempting loans made to veteran-owned businesses from the 12.25% credit union member business lending cap.
With over 20% of transitioning veterans aspiring to start their own businesses, this legislation would provide critical support to their entrepreneurial goals. By allowing credit unions to offer more affordable financing, H.R. 507 would help veterans achieve business success and contribute to their communities.
The bill, sponsored by Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA) and Vicente Gonzalez (TX), was reintroduced to the new session of Congress on January 16, 2024, and referred to the House Committee on Financial Services for further consideration.
Congress needs to hear how important this legislation is for credit unions and the veterans they serve. CrossState urges you to visit the our campaign in the Grassroots Action Center today to contact your member of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 507.
