Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
- Provide accurate and timely reports to management and regulatory authorities.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
- Recommend adjustments to ensure financial targets are met.
- Accounting Operations:
- Supervise day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other financial transactions.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risk.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements, including NCUA regulations.
- Coordinate audits and examinations by external auditors and regulatory agencies.
- Team Leadership:
- Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to accounting staff.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to maximize team productivity and morale.
- Delegate tasks effectively, balancing workload and skill sets within the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in a financial institution.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements for credit unions.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage), MS Excel, and financial analysis tools.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
