Pennsylvania Interchange Stalled; Join CU Advocacy Network

The Pennsylvania legislature reached an agreement late last week and passed the state’s budget. The budget and accompanying code bills DID NOT contain any interchange provisions.

The interchange bill which passed the House Finance Committee remains stalled in the House Rules Committee, in large part due to CrossState’s efforts and additional support from the PA Bankers Association, the PA Association of Community Bankers, and other stakeholders of the Electronic Payment Coalition, a united front of national banks, state banking and credit union associations, and community and business groups in the state.

The unified effort yielded nearly 30,000 letters to Pennsylvania lawmakers and made it impossible for lawmakers to avoid hearing the negative impacts this experimental bill would have on Pennsylvania’s small businesses and consumers. CrossState thanks those credit unions who contacted their lawmakers over the last several weeks. Your participation was instrumental in this effort.

The state legislature has adjourned and is not scheduled to return to Harrisburg until September.

Before adjourning, the Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group posted their opposition on X and Barata Bey with the African American Chamber of Commerce of Western PA submitted a LTE to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review opposing the bill.
