NJ Has Worst Overall Tax Burden in Nation, Pennsylvania Ranked 33

For the sixth year in a row, New Jersey has ranked the highest overall tax burden in the nation. Pennsylvania fared better coming in at 33 according to the Tax Foundation’s 2023 Business Tax Climate Index.  

The Foundation also broke down the data by corporate (NJ: 48; PA: 42), individual income (NJ: 48; PA: 20), sales (NJ: 42; PA: 16), property (NJ: 45; PA: 16) and unemployment insurance (NJ: 32; PA: 22) tax rates.
