National and State-Wide Election Recap

This morning, Former President Donald Trump was projected to be the 47th President of the United States by defeating Vice President Kamala Harris. In addition to the presidential race, New Jersey and Pennsylvania noted several races, including a few victories and a defeat.

Election Recap: New Jersey

CrossState and CU Leaders meeting with Rep. Andy Kim in August

CrossState’s government relations team met with all three delegates to discuss key issues for credit unions over the past month. CrossState will be providing additional opportunities for credit unions to meet with these new members after yesterday’s election.

State Elections

New Jersey, one of the few states with off-year elections, will hold its state races in 2025. Watch for Representatives Mikie Sherrill and Josh Gottheimer, as one or both are expected to pursue the Democratic nomination for Governor next year.

Election Recap: Pennsylvania

U.S. Senate

Pennsylvania’s contentious U.S. Senate race between three-term Democratic incumbent Bob Casey and Republican former hedge fund CEO David McCormick has yet to be called. The race was thought to have been a key to which party would control the senate, but Republicans already flipped it earlier last night.

U.S. House of Representatives

CrossState and CU Leaders meeting with Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in October

Most of Pennsylvania’s Congressional incumbents won their re-election and will return to the House, all who have been supported by CrossState Credit Union Association and America’s Credit Unions.

  • Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-1)
  • Brendan Boyle (D-PA-2)
  • Dwight Evans (D-PA-3)
  • Madeleine Dean (D-PA-4)
  • Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA-5)
  • Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-6)
  • Matt Cartwright (D-PA-8)
  • Dan Meuser (R-PA-9)
  • Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11)
  • Summer Lee (D-PA-12)
  • John Joyce (R-PA-13)
  • Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA-14)
  • Glenn Thompson (R-PA-15)
  • Mike Kelly (R-PA-16)
  • Chris Deluzio (D-PA-17)

With these wins comes a defeat and an uncalled race.

Republican State Representative Ryan Mackenzie defeated three term incumbent Representative Susan Wild (D-PA-7), flipping one of the most coveted House seats in the nation.

The 10th Congressional race is still too close to call. Six term incumbent Representative Scott Perry (R-PA-10) has a slim lead over Democrat Janelle Stelson in unofficial results.

Pennsylvania Row Offices

Pennsylvania Republican Auditor General Tim DeFoor earned reelection over Democratic state Representative Malcom Kenyatta.

Pennsylvania Republican Treasurer Stacy Garrity has won a second term, defeating Democrat Erin McClelland.

Republican and York County District Attorney Dave Sunday won Pennsylvania’s attorney general race over Democrat Eugene DePasquale.

Pennsylvania Senate and Pennsylvania House of Representatives

The entire Pennsylvania House of Representatives was up for a vote yesterday, as were 25 seats in the state Senate.

On the state House side, 110 races were contested. On the state Senate side, 17 were contested.

The state Senate currently has a 28-22 Republican majority. There are 5 Pennsylvania Senate competitive races which most likely will inform who holds a majority in the chamber.

The Pennsylvania state House is made up of 203 representatives, currently 102 Democrats and 101 Republicans. In the tightly contested Pennsylvania House, a few competitive race wins will likely determine who controls the chamber.

Many of these races have not been called or are too close to call. CrossState is monitoring these races and will provide more information when it becomes available.
