Help Protect the Credit Union Tax Status
At America’s Credit Unions’ Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) last week, credit unions held more than 600 meetings on Capitol Hill—30 with New Jersey and Pennsylvania members of Congress—to advocate for credit union movement priorities. One critical takeaway: some lawmakers are questioning the credit union tax status.
While this remains a minority view, we must ensure the value of credit unions is heard loud and clear. Lawmakers are drafting tax policy, and we cannot let banker-driven arguments gain traction. They need to hear directly from their constituents, so let’s help them see the credit union difference, how credit unions strengthen communities, and how their constituents and the economy will be hurt without credit unions.
