FTC Extends Comment Period for its Green Guides

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced this week, that it has extended the public comment period for response to its request for comments about the Green Guides to April 24, 2023

In December, the FTC announced it was taking a fresh look at its Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims. The FTC is asking for your feedback on the continued need for the Green Guides, their economic impact, and their interaction with other environmental regs. They are also interested in research about consumer perception of green claims – both claims currently addressed in the Guides, as well as others in the marketplace.

In addition, the Federal Register Notice lists some specific issues the FTC hopes you’ll address: claims about carbon offsets and climate change; the use of the terms “recycled” and “recycled content;” representations about energy use and energy efficiency; and whether there’s a need for more guidance on the use of words like “compostable,” “degradable,” “ozone-friendly,” “organic,” and “sustainable.”

Save a step – and some energy – by filing your comment online by the April 24, 2023, deadline.
