Discovery FCU Supports Local Charity Throughout October

The idea for Discovery Federal Credit Union’s October celebration was spawned from wanting to think outside of the box for International Credit Union Day on October 19. Instead of the usual activities, we decided to focus on the “People Helping People” aspect of credit unions and invite a community partner into the branch to talk to our members. With it being Breast Cancer Awareness month, we immediately thought of Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County

One day was simply not enough time to celebrate our partnership with this essential local organization. We expanded festivities with a “Paint the Branch Pink” initiative, selling pink butterflies for a $1 donation. We also had staff wear special pink t-shirts on Fridays and asked them to make a donation in order to wear sneakers on Fridays. In total, the credit union raised $400 in October for this excellent cause.

“Thank you to all of our members for your support of this initiative,” said Discovery FCU President/CEO, Michele Smith. “Of all the wonderful ways we get to help the community, our partnership with Breast Cancer Support Services is one that our employees hold dear. So many have had breast cancer affect their lives and it’s powerful to be able to make a difference in the lives of survivors, caregivers, and family members.”
