Discovery Federal Credit Union held two events with their membership to bring joy to others this holiday season. The programs included and Angel Giving Tree and a holiday Card for Heroes event.
The Angel Giving Tree was to collect gifts and donations for a family from Opportunity House, a local nonprofit that supports the homeless population. This family, with a single mother and her three young sons, is in their long-term housing program. In total, the program resulted in dozens of gifts and over $400 of donations.
Holiday Cards for Heroes is organized by the local chapter of the Red Cross. This event was to facilitate members and staff filling out holiday cards to be delivered to local veterans and service members. Member’s 1st Federal Credit Union also joined in on the fun, with three employees who came for shifts to write out cards. In total, the event resulted in 161 cards for local heroes. The Red Cross used to have a ton of interest in this program, but when COVID-19 hit the program fell to the wayside. This year they are trying to pick it back up and the credit union event was the largest they had this year.
“I’d like to thank everyone who participated in these events. Seeing our employees and members get involved has been a true joy,” said Discovery FCU President/CEO, Michele Smith. “Making life better for our local community is why we exist and events like this complement our everyday efforts to help Berks County achieve their goals through strong financial footing.”
