Call to Action: PA House Finance Committee to Consider Swipe Fee Legislation
The PA House Finance Committee met this week to discuss a proposal to prohibit the collection of interchange on the sales and use tax portion of electronic transactions.
Testifying in support of the proposal were John Drechny of the Merchant Advisory Group and Linda Smith from Sheetz. Testifying in opposition, and on behalf of the financial services trade groups, was Electronic Payments Coalition’s Steve Rauschenberger. The relevant discussion of the hearing may be viewed at this link.
The PA House Finance Committee is expected to consider legislation this coming Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We are cautioned that such a timeline would permit consideration of the legislation on the floor of the full House as early as this coming Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.
CrossState has been in touch with all members of the PA House Finance Committee but needs the grassroots power of credit unions. Credit unions who have a State Representative on the committee are asked to contact them and request they do not support the proposed legislation.
